As from April 6, the Commonwealth Government’s Carer Gateway is now operational, with The Benevolent Society being provider for Carer Gateway in our region – Central, Eastern and Northern Sydney areas.
We encourage all carers to contact the Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737 for an assessment, which will occur by phone and take about one hour. Click on the title above for more information.
Services available through the Carer Gateway include: Carer counselling (face to face and telephone); carer coaching; peer support groups; carer directed packages of support; short term and emergency respite; information and assistance with referrals to relevant services.
In addition, online supports are available through the Carer Gateway, including short self-guided coaching/skills modules, and online peer discussion forum.
The Carer Gateway website also contains a lot of useful information about many and varied aspects of the caring role.
Carer Support Service has unfortunately had to suspend face to face support groups due to COVID-19 restrictions. We are looking forward to resuming our group meetings as soon as it is safe and practicable to do so. We know carers value connecting with each other.
