Sharing the carer journey.

Support for Carers

CSS aims to improve the quality of life of unpaid carers by supporting them in their role in caring for a relative or friend who is frail or has a disability.

Who is a carer?:

A carer is a relative or a friend who cares for someone who, because of chronic illness, disability or frailty, would be unable to remain living independently in the community without such care. The purpose of the Carer Support Service is to improve the quality of life of carers by supporting them in their caring role.

Many carers live with the person they care for, others live elsewhere. The time they spend providing care may vary from a few hours each week to all day every day.

At CSS we are funded to provide assistance and support to carers who reside in South East Sydney by:

  • Information about assistance and support available to carers and the people they care for, including CSHP, HCPs, NDIS and other community care services.
  • Referral to those services
  • A regular newsletter called Carers Corner
  • Educational and recreational programs
  • Provision of Advocacy (support for carers rights)
  • A voice for carers as a group
  • Resources for carers to borrow
